Flat 4
Could have been nicer if the landlord cared and the tenants weren't such pigs!!!! It is unfurnished so I would have to get a few things and bring the rest from Rio.

Separate kitchen (very good even without and extractor) En suite bedroom - nice spacious living room. Unfurnished and away from plane route (I think).

Notice the nice polyfilla finish on the sink! hahaha.. Whoops! Where's the cooker? And the Fridge? Good cupboards...

Living room:

What's with the japanese Ikea copy lights? Ok not to bad...quite spaciuos but then there is no furniture hahaha. Good space division, but no storage space! Like the japanese style division between the living room and bedroom!

Let's see the other angle....

Ohhhh there's the fridge! Where's the cooker? hope it's not in the bathroom...it will be hard to get it out haha.

Bedroom

Nice space, but no bed would have to get one. Also no storage at all. Would have to get some.

Oh dear, look at the lights...I mean, lack of....

En-suite bathroom:

Well, bigger than Flats 1 and 2 but... the shower (which was electrical by the way) is no longer....

My God looks like this flat has been mugged!

All this for a mere R$ 1,300 pcm
Included in the price are: Water, gas, 1 car space, maintenance fee and council tax.

This flat would be very good but unfortunately it isn't. Plus I would have to buy:
Clothes storage for the bedroom
Cooker
Bed
Microwave
Dining table
Sofa
TV Rack

And bring from Rio:
Desk
Bookshelves
chairs

Soooo Big NoNo

Flat 3

Flat 3
The best one! Close to work a bit more away from the plane route. Better cared for than the previous ones.

The bathroom: niiiccceee! Granite sink, no bruised knees and no electric shower!!!! Good! Like it already.

Bedroom: nice bed, good storage space with aircon!!! Love it!!!

Oh look, the bedroom is on the second storey!!!

And the bedroom has tv....

Not that i plan on using it there. :)

Front door and kitchen. Ok storage in kitchen and with a microwave! Good! And with a small table for eating.

Granite sink and fridge apparently works!

Living area and tv space...fits all my gadgets!!!!! Perfect!

All this for....whoops R$2000 pcm

Price includes: water, gas, cleaning service, pool, gym, council tax and maintenance fee.

Quite close to work 20 min on a single bus.

Flat 2

Also located near the airport almost under the airstrip. I imagine what may happen if theres an accident...

This is a bigger flat and with better space distribution but it also looks as it has not been maintained since it was first rented. Drawers don't shut properly, wood finish is coming apart in some places, glass is cracked in some places looks abandoned... Oh forgot to say in the previous post both this and flat 1 have no aircon. Both are also very far from work.

Bedroom viewed from the living room with the kitchen to the left. At least I have a fan on the ceiling... The fridge/freezer in the kitchen is destroyed the freezer shelf fell down as i opened the fridge door... The space for the tv is ridiculosly small so I would have to buy another tv as the one i have would not fit there.

Kitchen: again no extractor fan (dont these people cook?). Something must be said in favour of this flat: there's plenty of storage space... Cupboards everywhere...(when their doors open of course).

This bathroom looks much better...however my knees will probably get bruised from sitting on the loo...I have to remember not to put the toilet rolls in the drawers...haha
the shower is also electrical (i hate those things!) but at least on this one you get more shoulder space.

Very good working space!! Big closet next to it.

More storage space!!! This one between the bed and work space.

All this for the bargain price of R$1,500
Price includes: water, gas, 1 parking space, maintenance fee (dont know where thas going...) council tax.

Issues: away from work, may die from a plane crash without being on a plane, fridge/freezer, no extractor fan, bruised knees.

Flat hunting

Saw 4 flats today. Here is the account illustrated

Flat 1
Located near the airport right underneath the route to the airstrip. Small with weird diagonal walls.

Notice that the drainer hangs over the floor. I wonder what happens with the water from the wet plates. Underneath the sink and cooker theres the fridge and a small cupboard that does not close properly.

Thats the view showing the living room/kitchen to the right. No extractor fan in the kitchen. Sofa has probably been there since th 50s.

Thats the other view from the front door to th living room. The workspace is that shelf to the left. It is quite low so I believe the former tenant must have been a dwarf.

This is all the cupboard space!!!

This is a nice picture of the loo that the state agent sent me. Muuuccchhh nicer than reality. There is mould on the ceiling and there is no room for turning inside the shower (which is electrical and you risk getting electrocuted).

The bedroom. Aside the diagonal wall it is not bad.

All this for the bargain price of R$1,600 pcm
Price includes: water, gas, cable tv, internet, maint. Fee and council tax

Issues that bothered me: no proper working space, unless i am a midget. The lack of storage space and the ridiculous bathroom. Apart from the planes of course

Flat 2 in the next post

My life as a soap

I was in the shower when it finally hit me, I mean, I did mention it jokingly to Ellie today but only now I fully understood the seriousness of this allegation.

Indeed MY LIFE IS A SOAP OPERA!!!!

It has drama, the far away lover, the unemployment, the crappy almost surreal job, the family quarrels, a citizenship from a dead relative...Recently I even managed to get some audience...beware Neighbours!!! Here comes Luis!!!!

Hahahaha

Citizenship Conundrum

Can't stand my brother being negative about the whole citizenship thing...why can't he be humble and admit that I have done a better job at it than he did?

I am fed up with this whole family affair...I need to move out of my parents' home ASAP. So the next step is to increase my income.

Floodventure

Saturday afternoon mom, dad and I went to my godmother's b'day party in Niteroi. We left there at 6:30 to come back to Rio as heavy rain was starting to fall...No big deal as we, cariocas are used to strong showers in the summer anyway.

But there was a catch...this one flooded the whole city! We were stranded for hours in traffic. We braved through streets which looked more like rapids... It took us 7 hours to get home (a trip which would take us no longer than 40min).

That's what you get when you litter the streets and rivers!!! Clogged drains and rivers with less drainage....

Late love

As I was leaving the house to work I decided to give it one last chance. Glancing into the damp depths of the stony mailbox there it was... A shiny red envelope addressed to Dr. Luis Santa Maria!!!!

Ellie's valentine's card finally arrived...just as I was slagging off Royal Mail...serves me right... :)

Loved the card... We are meant to be! xxxxxxxx

Song of the week!!!!

Ellie had the great idea of us having a song of the week: each of us choose a song that we will listen for a whole week. Loved it I listen to the song she sent me everywhere I go now!

Makes me feel closer to her.. :)

Moving yet again...

I really can't believe I am moving again!!!!

In the past 10 years I have moved 5 times. I have moved once every two years on average!
So here I am again swamped between boxes and dust coughing my lungs out... And the sad part is there is at least another move in the near future for me....

28 Jan

On my way to the meeting at Senac and the iPhone started playing the song 'Only You' by the flying pickets. That added to the image of Ellie walking through Uni Campus in the winter filled my eyes with water.

Babe, I wish I could be with you there. I miss you loads.

Longest trip ever

Left Santa Maria at 10 am today and arrived in Rio at 11.30pm. A thunderstorm in Rio had the plane deviated to Belo Horizonte (a city in another state).

Would have taken the same time to go to the UK!!!!!

Bloody knackered!

Will go to bed.

Love xxxx

Somewhere on the air
Dear Ellie, this distance sometimes hurt a lot. I wish you were here right now. I keep thinking of the moments we are missing and all the things we could be doing together. I hold my sanity on the promisses that our future together holds. Ironically i am just now listening to a song entitled 'Leaving on a jet plane' and it goes... 'i'm leaving on a jet plane don't know when i'll be back again'. This just adds to the situation we face doesn't it?
